Logi Tune is Logitech’s current app and it is actively maintained — as of September 2026 the shipping version is 3.10.129, released in August 2025. It is not the retired one. So this is not a comparison between something alive and something dead; it is a comparison between a vendor app and a standards app, and which of those you want depends on what is on your desk.
What Logi Tune does that CamDial cannot
Firmware. Tune updates the firmware inside your Logitech camera. CamDial cannot do that for any camera and never will — it speaks the standard control protocol, and flashing a device is not part of it. If a firmware update fixes your camera’s image processing, Logitech’s app is the only route to it.
Vendor-specific controls. Some Logitech cameras expose settings that are not part of the USB video standard — field-of-view switching on a Brio being the one people ask about. Those live in Logitech’s own software. CamDial 1.0 does not have them.
Fleet management. Tune integrates with Logitech Sync for organisations that manage meeting rooms. That is a whole category of problem CamDial does not address.
If those matter to you, keep Tune. You can run both; the app to be careful about is Logitech’s other one, since Logitech’s own troubleshooting notes that Tune and G HUB fight over the webcam when both are installed.
Where a vendor app runs out
It only sees Logitech. This is the structural difference and everything else follows from it. Logi Tune manages Logitech hardware — the C920, C922, C925e, C930e and Brio families are on its supported list. The Elgato Facecam on your second arm, the Razer Kiyo you keep for a different angle, the no-name camera you bought to test a shot: Tune does not see them at all. A desk with two brands on it needs two vendor apps, each with its own menu bar item and its own idea of how a slider should behave.
Settings that do not survive. The most persistent complaint about Tune on the Mac is not about its controls, it is that your settings do not stay. Forum and community threads describe re-running the app and reapplying zoom every session, and the same thing in the middle of calls:

That is not really a Logitech failing so much as how webcams work — the values live in volatile registers, macOS keeps no record, and the app that opens the camera next gets to reconfigure it. But it is the thing people actually want fixed, and a vendor control panel is not built to fix it.
Three apps, one camera. Logitech splits webcam control across Tune, Options+ and G HUB, and maintains a support article whose entire job is telling Brio owners which one to install. That is a lot of surface area for “make my camera look right”.
A rough January. In January 2026 Logitech shipped macOS builds with an expired developer certificate, which broke its own Mac apps until it was fixed; TechRadar and The Register both covered it. It was temporary and it is over, but it is the kind of thing that makes people look for a smaller dependency.

Choosing
Keep Logi Tune if every camera you own is a Logitech, you want firmware updates from the vendor, you need a Brio’s field-of-view switch, or your IT department manages cameras through Sync. It is the official tool and it does official-tool things nothing else can.
Add or switch to CamDial if your drawer has more than one brand in it, or if the specific thing that annoys you is settings not surviving a reconnect or the start of a call. Presets reapply on their own when the camera comes back; a per-app rule fires when Zoom or OBS comes to the front; and for an app that keeps adjusting the picture mid-call there is a Hold these settings against other apps toggle (Pro) that checks twice a second and puts your values back. It is off unless you turn it on, because holding means reading the camera continuously.
Values are in kelvins and shutter fractions rather than percentages, controls your camera does not support are hidden rather than greyed out, and the app has no network access at all.

How we checked
Logi Tune’s status and version were checked against Logitech’s own support and device pages in September 2026; its supported-camera list comes from the same place. The persistence complaints come from public forum and community threads, and the January 2026 certificate outage from contemporaneous reporting by TechRadar and The Register. We did not test Logi Tune ourselves on the newest macOS, so nothing here claims anything about that.
